Celtic’s the Perfect Place Harry Kewell

Image
New Celtic coach Harry Kewell has discussed what he has learned so far in coaching and where he is at before taking on the job in Celtic’s backroom staff. It was announced on Friday that Kewell would join Ange Postecoglou’s backroom staff for the forthcoming season, linking up with John Kennedy and Gavin Strachan as Stephen McManus take on a new role with the Celtic B team. So far, Kewell has managed Watford’s U23s, Crawley Town, Notts County, Oldham Athletic and Barnet but it is important to note that even though his managerial record may not be exemplary he is being appointed to Celtic as a coach not a manager. With everything that Ange has achieved so far at the club, he has plenty of credit in the bank and if he is onboard and wanted the appointment to go ahead, then everyone should be happy. The former Leeds and Liverpool attacking player has a vast knowledge of the game having played at the very top. His most noticeable achievement is his 2005 Champions League winning medal with ...

Why Lisandro Martinez makes more sense for Manchester United than Jurrien Timber

Image
Manchester United have set their sights on Lisandro Martinez, rather than his defensive partner Jurrien Timber, to help solve their centre-back troubles. That is according to top-tier Dutch journalist Mike Verweij, a report which The People’s Person brought you earlier today. Both defenders have immense potential, but there are reasons beyond availability that have led to Erik ten Hag’s pursuit of the Argentine as a Summer 2022 target. Chief among them is that Manchester United have not had a left-footed centre-half in the squad since Marcos Rojo’s departure to Estudiantes in January of 2020. One could even argue that they have not had a technically proficient one since Daley Blind left after Louis van Gaal’s tenure in 2015. A host of top managers see a left-footed central defender as vital in providing a variety of passing options when building play from deep, and Ten Hag is certainly among those who share in that school of thought. United’s search for such a defender goes back even t...

What Mino Raiola said to Sir Alex Ferguson in Manchester United meeting about Paul Pogba

Image
The late agent appears in Pogba's new documentary, which gives a behind-the-scenes look at the midfielder's life as he prepares for his second United exit. Paul Pogba and his late agent Mino Raiola lifted the lid on the player's acrimonious first exit from Manchester United in 2012 in Pogba's new documentary. Pogba is set to leave Old Trafford this summer, with United confirming the midfielder will officially depart when his contract expires at the end of June. It brings an end to his six-year spell at the club – his second stint with the Reds. The 29-year-old is expected to rejoin Juventus in a repeat of the move that saw him exit United for the first time 10 years ago. A decade ago, Pogba and Raiola instigated an acrimonious split from the club after graduating from United’s academy. His decision to leave Old Trafford angered then manager Ferguson. Back then, Ferguson took aim at Raiola, blaming gun for turning Pogba's head and convincing him to leave the club. ...

Modric to Salah after Champions League Final: “OK, next time you try again...”

Image
Rodrygo revealed Modric’s words to the Liverpool star. Real Madrid attacker Rodrygo Goes revealed what Luka Modric said to Mohamed Salah right after the Champions League Final in Paris. Rodrygo talked in the “Cortes Podcast” and said that the midfielder said the following while Madrid were giving Liverpool the guard of honor. “OK, next time you try again,” said Modric. Salah had been talking about earning revenge and redemption time and time again ahead of the Final. The attacker had to leave his first Final against Real Madrid with a shoulder injury, Los Blancos conquered that trophy in Kyiv an Salah wanted payback. The Egyptian attacker publicly stated that he wanted to face Real Madrid in the Final this year and Los Blancos took notice, as Salah was also confident about Liverpool’s chances. Rodrygo also explained that Real Madrid players used Salah’s quotes as motivation during the week ahead of the Final. In the end, Real Madrid gave Salah the chance to get revenge, but Los Blancos...

Phil Foden names Man City's alternative Player of the Year who was overlooked

Image
Manchester City had three players included in the PFA Team of the Year, but the dressing room feel another player should have been included. Phil Foden says Rodri's impact this season is well appreciated in the Manchester City dressing room - even if he was overlooked in the end of season awards. Rodri had his best season for City since signing from Atletico Madrid, but was strangely absent from any Player of the Year or Team of the Season discussions. In the PFA Team of the Year, City had three representatives - Joao Cancelo, Bernardo Silva and Kevin De Bruyne - but Liverpool's Thiago Alcantara was picked in defensive midfield instead of Rodri. That selection was widely questioned, especially given Rodri's impact at key moments in City's title win, but teammate Foden says the squad are in no doubt as to how important he is. Speaking to Sky Sports, Foden was asked if Rodri's contributions had been underrated, to which he quickly replied: "Not in our team. ...

With Erling Haaland, Manchester City Get EVERYTHING They Want

Image
Txiki speaks and we listen. Manchester City officially confirmed the signing of Erling Haaland, who has been unveiled too much success at City. A formidable signing as tore the Bundesliga apart and now has come to the Premier League and reigning champs. The Norwegian could make his debut for Guardiola’s side either in the clubs pre-season tour of the US vs America or Bayern Munich. The latter would be my pick and close out his time in Germany by playing the marquee team in that country with his new team. Manchester City’s Director of Football Txiki Begiristain has lauded the transfer. “We have been monitoring Erling for several years now, so we are delighted to bring him here to Manchester City,” “He is a huge talent and has been one of the best strikers in Europe over the last few seasons. His goalscoring record is exceptional and his performances at Borussia Dortmund and in the Champions League in particular have proved he can succeed at the highest level. “Erling has everything we w...

End Of An Era: Juventus Legend Giorgio Chiellini Officially Announces LAFC Move

Image
As had been expected for quite some time, this week saw Giorgio Chiellini finally confirmed as the newest signing for Los Angeles FC. In joining the MLS side, the Italian defender ended his 17-year stint with Juventus where he became one of the most decorated players in Serie A history. He helped the Bianconeri finish top of the table on no fewer than 10 occasions, adding the 2006/07 Serie B title and five Coppa Italia triumphs along the way. Chiellini also helped power Juve to two Champions League Finals, where they were beaten once by Lionel Messi’s Barcelona and once by Cristiano Ronaldo and Real Madrid. While he may have been unable to prevent defeat to teams led by those two aliens, against the rest of football’s mere mortal men, the Juve no.3 became one of the most feared stoppers in the game. Fearlessly plunging head-first into bruising challenges or crunching tackles, Chiellini somehow seemed to collect more blood-stained bandages than winner’s medals, routinely looking like a ...

INTERNATIONAL RECAP | Locatelli starts in draw with England

Image
Italy continued their unbeaten run in the Nations League with a goalless draw against England in Wolverhampton. Manuel Locatelli started in the centre of Roberto Mancini’s three-man midfield, while Bianconeri January signing, Federico Gatti completed an unforgettable year with his debut cap. The centre half, who completed the season on loan at Frosinone in Serie B, played the full 90 minutes at the heart of the Azzurri defence. Locatelli remained on the pitch for 64 minutes. The draw keeps Italy top of Group A3 ahead of Hungary and Germany, the Azzurri’s next opponents. In Group A4, meanwhile, Netherlands came from two goals down to draw 2-2 with Poland. No Juventus player was involved as Matthijs De Ligt and Wojciech Szczęsny were unused substitutes. This evening, Alvaro Morata’s Spain take on Czech Republic in Group A2.

Salah explains why Liverpool ‘deserved’ to beat Real Madrid in the Champions League finalFootball

Image
Mo Salah thinks Liverpool “deserved to win” in the Champions League final against Real Madrid at the end of May. Jurgen Klopp’s side lost 1-0 to the La Liga giants at the Stade de France in Paris with Real winning their 14th European Cup in their history. Liverpool, who won the League Cup and FA Cup double last season, dominated much of the first half against Carlo Ancelotti’s outfit but Vinicius Junior’s 59th-minute strike settled the tie. And Salah, who has vowed to play for Liverpool next season as his contract ticks down, reckons the Reds “deserved” to beat Real on the night as they had the better chances to win the match. “We deserved to win, we had more chances, I got two or three quite big ones but, each time, Thibaut Courtois made incredible saves,” Salah told  L’Equipe . “It’s his job, Real recruited him for that. He earned his Man of the Match award. It was his evening.” Liverpool win the Champions League in 2019, just a year after they lost to Real Madrid in th...

Man Utd forward slammed by Spanish press after disappointing loan spell

Image
Anthony Martial’s future at Manchester United is up in the air, with the Frenchman’s dramatic drop in form leaving him on the periphery at Old Trafford. The 26-year-old was let go by Ralf Rangnick in the January transfer window but his six-month loan at Sevilla has done him no good. Martial failed to find the net in any of his nine appearances in La Liga and sustained two-month-long injuries, which seriously hampered his bid to resurrect his career. The France international’s barren run in front of goal now stands at four months, having last scored in Sevilla’s Copa del Rey win over Elche in February. Prior to that, Martial had only managed five goals in 2021. The Spanish press are known for their strong critique and no punches were held when it was time to assess Martial’s six months in Andalusia. “Martial’s stint as a Sevilla player can only be described as a fiasco,”  publication AS wrote, via The Peoples Person.  “For the investment made, for the expectations created and f...

The Italians believe they are close to winning the race for the Frenchman’s signature. Calciomercato.com reports that “From Paris there are increasingly clear signs that PSG would like to withdraw from the race for Paul Pogba, who is not particularly appreciated by the new transfer man Luis Campos. “Indeed, in France there is also an attempt to explain how in reality PSG was never really interested in Pogba. “Contacts with Rafaela Pimenta continue, intensify, there are details to b...
