Erik ten Hag's best Manchester United XI if Antony signs from Ajax

Man United are edging closer to bringing in the Brazilian winger before the end of the summer transfer window.

Erik ten Hag looks set to finally get his man with Manchester United edging closer to the signing of Antony from Ajax.

Earlier this week, MEN Sport reported that United were feeling confident about signing the Brazilian winger. On Friday, Antony slammed his current club for blocking his move to Old Trafford due to how late it has come in the window.

The 22-year-old was left out of the Ajax squad to face FC Utrecht on Sunday and it is understood by the Manchester Evening News that a €100m package is close to being agreed. Should he come in, Ten Hag will now have decisions to make on what will be his best starting XI.

Here is what we at the MEN consider to be United's best team, should Antony sign, as things stand.

With a lack of goalkeeping options available, David de Gea remains the number one 'keeper at the club. The four players in front of him - Diogo Dalot, Raphael Varane, Lisandro Martinez and Tyrell Malacia - have all impressed to differing extents in the last two matches and would complete a familiar back five.

Casemiro started on the bench at Southampton but you would feel that it is simply just a matter of time before he is playing for 90 minutes after his assured cameo at St Mary's. His midfield partner is up for debate still, however Christian Eriksen has done well after being overawed at Brentford so probably deserves to keep his place - Scott McTominay and Fred will be pushing all the way for a start though.

Bruno Fernandes has taken over captaincy duties on the pitch for United in the absence of Harry Maguire and would be the best option for the 'number 10' role. Antony, having already joined in this scenario, would be best chosen on the right of the front three - a more familiar position for the new man.

This would leave Ten Hag with a difficult choice to make between Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford on the left. Rashford prefers that position more to his England teammate and he perhaps edges Sancho out for the starting place but this could be interchangeable.

Leading the line, if fit, has to be Anthony Martial at this stage. Should he keep injuries at bay, the Frenchman looks like he could really flourish under Ten Hag and, with Cristiano Ronaldo's future in the balance, his time could have arrived as United's first choice striker.
