Manchester United tracking development of Celtic star Matt O’Riley

Manchester United are scouting Celtic midfielder Matt O’Riley, according to reports.

The Manchester Evening News claims the midfielder has caught the eye of Manchester United, with the Reds monitoring his development in the Scottish Premiership only eight months after his transfer from MK Dons.

O’Riley is only 21 and he started in Celtic’s 9-0 win over Dundee United on Sunday. A bitter pill for Dylan Levitt to swallow!

Last season, the former Fulham academy star scored four goals and created five more in 25 games for Celtic, where he is under contract until 2026.

The report also states that there are no signs of an imminent approach.

So, with that in mind, another year at Celtic will see O’Riley gain experience in the Champions League and that may have a negative impact on his valuation from United’s perspective.

The SPL side have been drawn in the same group as Real Madrid, RB Leipzig and Shakhtar Donetsk. That proposes the chance to see O’Riley come up against some of the best players Europe has to offer.

Moreover, United won’t be playing in Europe on Tuesday or Wednesday nights, so our scouts will have a lot of opportunities to keep an eye on O’Riley and other players on Erik ten Hag’s radar.

The last player to join United from Celtic was Liam Miller (RIP) in 2004.
