Cristiano Ronaldo gave Antony valuable advice after taking Man Utd star under his wing

Manchester United new boy Antony has lifted the lid on the advice Cristiano Ronaldo has given him since the completion of his mega-money switch from Ajax in the summer

Antony has revealed that Cristiano Ronaldo has gone above and beyond to help him settle at Manchester United following his summer switch from Ajax.

The Brazilian international played a crucial role in the team that won the Eredivisie title under Erik ten Hag last term and quickly emerged as one of the Dutchman's top summer transfer targets after he was prised away from Amsterdam by United.

Although Ajax were reluctant to cash in on one of their prized assets, an agreement that could eventually eclipse £86million was finally reached between the two clubs - and Antony has adapted to life at Old Trafford seamlessly.

The 22-year-old made club history by plundering three goals in his first three Premier League appearances, with his latest strike helping United to a crucial 2-1 win over Everton.

Ronaldo came off the bench to grab the all-important winner at Goodison Park. And Antony has revealed that Ronaldo has taken given him plenty of advice since he arrived in Manchester and is constantly urging him to be confident on the pitch.

Antony told Manchester United's official club website : “Since I arrived here, Cristiano Ronaldo has really helped me feel at ease; he speaks to me a lot, on matchdays as well. He always tells me to be calm and confident, he’s achieved so much in football and I learn from him every day. I’m really grateful to have such an experienced person teaching us young players every day.”

After spurning plenty of opportunities in recent games, Ronaldo's match-winning goal against Everton was the 700th club-career goal of his remarkable career.

And Antony was full of praise for the longevity that the 37-year-old has achieved as Ronaldo continues to try and muscle his way back into Ten Hag's first-team plans.

“His mentality, it’s so strong. He’s very intelligent. This mentality of his, looking to the next day, everything still to play for, it’s what I’m trying to take on board and keep for the rest of my life.”

Antony has already been urged to build on his promising start to life at Old Trafford by Ten Hag, who believes that there is still scope for the versatile forward to improve.

"We have to expect more from him,” Ten Hag told reporters earlier this week. "He needs challenges, that’s why he came to the Premier League and he gets that here. He wants to play with the best players and the highest stress factors and against the best players.

"From there on he will step up and that’s what you see. [In the] First week he was scoring goals and he has done good stuff but I also see a lot of room for improvement in his game. What I was happy with is the goal [against Everton] was out of a moment of getting in behind – he has to do that more and use his pace."
