'On fire': Mason Mount waxes lyrical about Chelsea teammate's performance in 2-0 victory over Aston Villa
Mason Mount waxed lyrical about Chelsea teammate Kepa Arrizabalaga following his performance in the 2-0 victory against Aston Villa.
Chelsea kept up their great recent form by collecting another three points in the Premier League on Sunday.
England star Mount, who had not scored this season before today, netted a goal in each half to give the Blues a win at Villa Park.
Despite the comprehensive scoreline, Graham Potter’s side certainly weren’t at their very sharpest and had to stand firm against a wave of Villa pressure for large periods in the first-half.
Thankfully, goalkeeper Kepa delivered a truly remarkable performance in-between the sticks. Jamie Carragher described the 28-year-old goalkeeper as “outstanding” against Villa.
Kepa performance against Aston Villa
Chelsea’s outfield players must have been so thankful to their goalkeeper for some of his heroics in net away to Villa.
Mount was full of appreciation in hist post-match interview for Kepa’s contribution:
“Kepa was on fire and his quick saves kept us in the game. He has been brilliant over the last couple of weeks,” Mount said (4:15pm, 16 October).
Kepa and Mount are definitely emerging as two of the standout individuals under Potter. In fact, the Chelsea duo are the only two players to start all six of the manager’s games in charge.
There should be no reason to take Kepa out of the line-up when he’s playing like, albeit Edouard Mendy must be desperate for a chance to show Potter his game.
Meanwhile, Mount is proving to be the individual knitting everything together for the Blues in the top half of the pitch.
It’s now five wins and one draw to kickstart the Potter era. There were definite signs today that there’s still a lot of work to do when it comes to finetuning this side, but you can’t argue with the result they are getting.
