Mikel Arteta has already revealed why Arsenal want to sign Facundo Torres in January

Image
The Gunners are reportedly weighing up a move for Orlando City star Facundo Torres and Mikel Arteta has previously hinted at why the winger is the perfect fit for Arsenal As Arsenal maintain top spot in the Premier League and look to secure a first-place finish in Group A of the Europa League, it’s safe to say that things are looking good for Mikel Arteta’s side so far this season. However, as the optimism grows, so does the scepticism surrounding the Gunners’ strength in depth. Arsenal looked destined to finish in the top four last season and were just one win away from doing so, but a number of injuries as well as a lack of firepower led to a drop in quality at the all-important moment. It’s a situation that could have been avoided had the club decided to dip into the winter market but that option was not explored and unfortunately, it was a call that had its consequences. Fast forward a year and Arsenal could be faced with a similar scenario albeit in different circumstances. The fi...

West Ham eyeing up swoop for Gustav Isaksen

Image
West Ham United are keeping a close eye on FC Midtjylland player Gustav Isaksen. What’s the news? That’s according to Calciomercato, who reported that the Hammers are amongst the potential suitors for the player, along with Newcastle United and AC Milan. Paolo Maldini and Frederic Massara, part of the Rossoneri’s management team, watched Isaksen during his club’s match against Lazio in the Europa League. The Danish side are unlikely to settle for less than €20m (£17m), which is a fee that West Ham could comfortably afford. Moyes could unearth Leroy Sane 2.0 Football Talent Scout creator Jacek Kulig described the Dane as a “flamboyant winger” while also comparing him to Leroy Sane just under two years ago, with the two players sharing similar statistics. Last season, the Bayern Munich forward registered 14 goal contributions in the league, compared to ten for Isaksen, as they both proved that they can offer a prominent goalscoring threat from a wide position. Sane again edged it in term...

Xavi expecting a stern test from Bayern Munich

Image
The game pretty much decides Barca’s fate in Europe. Bayern Munich travel to northeastern Spain to play FC Barcelona in Matchday 5 of the Champions League group stage. It’s do-or-die for the Catalans as their chances of qualifying for the Round of 16 look slim to none. Nevertheless, Barcelona coach Xavi is expecting a Bayern team who will behave like they did in recent clashes between the two teams. “I expect to face a very intense and tactically astute side,” Xavi said (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “We consider Bayern to be one of the best sides in the world. We were very good in Munich, but we didn’t convert our chances. Tomorrow, we have to show that was an aberration.” Hernandez was on target in the two clubs’ previous encounter The last meeting between the two clubs was a 2-0 win for Bayern at the Allianz Arena, where Barcelona dominated the game for 85 minutes but were undone by a five-minute stretch that saw Bayern get two goals in quick succession through Lucas Hernandez and Le...

Real Madrid players rated vs Red Bull Leipzig

Image
Real Madrid faced off against Red Bull Leipzig at the Red Bull Arena earlier tonight as they hoped to grab all three points on their travels in the UEFA Champions League. Los Blancos made a poor start to the game as they conceded the opening goal in the 13th minute when Josko Gvardiol found the back of the net. Christopher Nkunku doubled Leipzig’s advantage just five minutes later. However, Vinicius Jr. pulled a goal back in the 44th minute as the Madrid giants went into the half-time interval 2-1 down on the scoreline. Timo Werner killed the game off when he scored in the 81st minute. Despite Rodrygo’s late consolation from the penalty spot, the contest finished with Carlo Ancelotti’s men crashing to a 3-2 defeat away from home. Let’s take a look at how each Real Madrid player fared during the clash against Red Bull Leipzig. GK: Thibaut Courtois – 6/10 The Belgian keeper made some decent saves at the back but will be disappointed after conceding three goals tonight. RB: Lucas Vazquez ...

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp needs to drop three stars after Nottingham Forest defeat

Image
Liverpool fell to a lacklustre defeat at the hands of newly-promoted Nottingham Forest on Saturday afternoon. Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp will have some big calls to make regarding his future team selections after Saturday's humbling loss at the hands of Nottingham Forest. The Reds were downed by one of their former players in Taiwo Awoniyi, who struck in the second half to claim all three points for Forest and condemn their Merseyside opponents to yet another lacklustre defeat in the Premier League. The result saw Liverpool remain well adrift of the division's top four, with the six-time European champions having won just four of their 11 league matches since the beginning of the campaign. Their disappointing form could force Klopp into making a number of changes for their next game against Ajax in midweek in an attempt to get Liverpool back on track by gaining some much-needed winning momentum. Joe Gomez could be among the players at risk of being dropped for Liverpool's ...

Full Arsenal squad revealed for Southampton Premier League clash with Saka and Zinchenko updates

Image
Arsenal team news: The Gunners will be hoping to increase their lead at the top of the Premier League with a trip to the south coast to take on Ralph Hasenhuttl's Southampton Arsenal enjoyed a positive midweek with a hard fought win against PSV in the Europa League, with Granit Xhaka's excellent winner sealing a narrow triumph against the Dutch side. Now, they will face a side who also won in midweek as they travel to face Southampton in the Premier League after they beat Bournemouth 1-0 on Wednesday. For a tricky away fixture the Gunners could be without one of their key players after Bukayo Saka went down injured during his side's win against PSV in midweek. Following the match, Arteta spoke about the winger's injury, saying: "Yeah, he got a kick, he was limping a little bit, but hopefully, he will be all right." He joins the growing list of injury concerns in the Gunners' squad, with Oleksandr Zinchenko, Emile Smith Rowe and Mohamed Elneny all having mi...

Kylian Mbappe reveals PSG transfer stance amid Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham links

Image
Kylian Mbappe has lifted the lid on his future at Paris Saint-Germain amid reports last week which claimed that he wants to leave the club in January Kylian Mbappe has revealed that he had never asked to leave Paris Saint-Germain in the upcoming January transfer window. The 23-year-old was heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid in the summer but, after penning a new deal with the French giants, a move looked to be off the cards. Just months later, Mbappe seemingly had a change of heart. According to Marca, the France international wanted to leave the Parisians in the upcoming transfer window after feeling as if he had been betrayed by the club amid a handful of broken promises. Despite having looked destined to arrive at the Santiago Bernabeu, the report states that he had no interest in joining Los Blancos, leaving the door wide open for the likes of Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotpsur to try their luck. But, following PSG's win with over Marseille, Mbappe downplayed specula...

Barcelona trio in contention to win awards at France Football’s Ballon d’Or gala

Image
The 2022 Ballon d’Or ceremony will be hosted by France Football later this evening at the Theatre du Chatelet in Paris. As ever, Barcelona players are likely to dominate this event, with no less than three players in contention to win accolades. The list is led by Alexia Putellas, who is one of the favourites to secure the Ballon d’Or for women’s football. The 28-year-old midfielder won the prestigious award last year, with Lionel Messi winning the men’s division, ahead of Robert Lewandowski. However, this time around, it is Lewandowski who is ahead of Messi in the pecking order and is one of the favourites to win the men’s Ballon d’Or. The Polish international is coming on the back of an excellent 2021/22 campaign with Bayern Munich that saw him win the Bundesliga and score 35 goals. He also scored 13 times in the UEFA Champions League. Since joining Barça in the summer, Lewandowski has scored 14 goals in 13 competitive appearances. However, with no Champions League crown to his name,...

Mohamed Salah fires Liverpool to victory over Man City as Jurgen Klopp sent-off in tempestuous encounter

Image
Liverpool 1-0 Man City: Salah beat Ederson in a one-on-one after the City ‘keeper had earlier denied him in a similar position, before the Reds’ manager was dismissed for berating officials on the sidelines Liverpool could not compete with Manchester City, Jurgen Klopp had claimed. And over 38 games this season, he may be right, with the gap still standing at 10 points. But over 90 febrile, fantastic minutes, Liverpool ended the champions’ unbeaten start, offered a reminder of why Anfield remains Pep Guardiola’s bogey ground and Klopp his toughest opponent. Liverpool have made a premature departure from the title race this season and Klopp exited a famous victory early, sent off for yelling in the linesman Gary Beswick’s ear. His disciplinary record may have deteriorated but on the pitch, he improved an already remarkable statistic. He extended his unrivalled number of wins against Guardiola to 12 and the context made this one of the greatest. The Reds went from their worst start to a ...

A new stat shows how key Vlahovic has been to Juventus

Image
Dusan Vlahovic joined Juventus in the January transfer window because the Bianconeri had needed a goal-scorer. Goals change games, so if you have a player that can score some, you can earn more points and more wins. Juve has benefited from their investment in the Serbian, even though their overall team performance does not seem to have improved. A new report has now revealed they win more matches when he actually scores for them. Calciomercato says when he scores they almost certainly win and definitely do not lose. The report reveals he has seven goals from six matches for the team. Five of those fixtures have ended in wins for them and the other has been a draw. However, in their other 9 matches, he has scored once, and it ended in a draw against Roma, with Juve losing five and drawing the other three, without him scoring. Juve FC Says We signed Vlahovic because we knew what he could do and he has not disappointed us so far. The striker has proven to be a good buy, and we will keep b...

Real Madrid players rated vs Barcelona

Image
Real Madrid entertained Barcelona at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium earlier today as they focused on collecting all three points from the Clasico. Los Blancos made a bright start to the game and scored the opener in the 12th minute via Karim Benzema’s effort. Federico Valverde doubled the home team’s advantage just 22 minutes later when he found the back of the net. The Madrid giants led 2-0 at the half-time break. Ferran Torres scored a late goal for Barca in the 83rd minute. However, Rodrygo ended up putting the icing on the cake for Real Madrid when he put the match to bed for them in injury time. The Clasico finished with Los Blancos earning a brilliant 3-1 win at home. Let’s take a look at how each Real Madrid player fared during the match against the Catalan club. GK: Andriy Lunin – 7/10 He made a few decent saves at the back and did enough to restrict the opposition to just one goal. RB: Dani Carvajal – 7/10 The Spaniard gave a good account of himself when defending inside his ha...

Arsenal hold on to beat Leeds and stay top thanks to Bukayo Saka strike

Image
Leeds 0-1 Arsenal: Patrick Bamford misses from the spot for the hosts after Saka’s first-half goal Bukayo Saka’s first-half goal clinched Arsenal a hard-fought and controversial 1-0 win at Leeds and kept them top of the Premier League table on Sunday (16 October). Saka slammed home an emphatic finish 10 minutes before the interval as Arsenal won for the ninth time in 10 league games this season. But Leeds, inspired by the half-time introduction of talisman Patrick Bamford, dominated the second period and will feel aggrieved to have lost. Bamford missed a penalty and Leeds had another spot-kick decision in stoppage time, initially awarded by referee Chris Kavanagh but overturned after a VAR intervention. Play was suspended by Kavanagh less than a minute after kick-off when all the match officials lost contact with the video assistant referee and goal-line technology due to a power cut. Kavanagh led the players off the pitch amid a chorus of boos and play did not resume until 2.40pm loca...

'On fire': Mason Mount waxes lyrical about Chelsea teammate's performance in 2-0 victory over Aston Villa

Image
Mason Mount waxed lyrical about Chelsea teammate Kepa Arrizabalaga following his performance in the 2-0 victory against Aston Villa. Chelsea kept up their great recent form by collecting another three points in the Premier League on Sunday. England star Mount, who had not scored this season before today, netted a goal in each half to give the Blues a win at Villa Park. Despite the comprehensive scoreline, Graham Potter’s side certainly weren’t at their very sharpest and had to stand firm against a wave of Villa pressure for large periods in the first-half. Thankfully, goalkeeper Kepa delivered a truly remarkable performance in-between the sticks. Jamie Carragher described the 28-year-old goalkeeper as “outstanding” against Villa. Photo by James Williamson – AMA/Getty Images Kepa performance against Aston Villa Chelsea’s outfield players must have been so thankful to their goalkeeper for some of his heroics in net away to Villa. Mount was full of appreciation in hist post-match intervie...

Ten Hag explains why Eriksen and Rashford are not starting vs Newcastle

Image
Kick-off at Old Trafford is less than an hour away as Erik ten Hag eyes a third consecutive win at home. Newcastle stand as the opposition on the day, with the Magpies losing just one game thus far. As the teams were unveiled, there were two notable exclusions in the United side. Christian Eriksen and Marcus Rashford, two of United’s best players this season, have both been left out of the starting eleven. Eriksen has even been left out of the squad whilst Rashford has been named on the bench. Speaking ahead of kick-off, Ten Hag has now reportedly revealed why. According to BBC journalist Shamoon Hafez, the boss has explained that Eriksen misses the game altogether due to illness and Rashford is not fit enough to start the game, with the 24-year-old also feeling under the weather. Ten Hag says Christian Eriksen is out through illness and Marcus Rashford is on the bench as he is "under the weather and not 100% fit". #MUFC — Shamoon Hafez (@ShamoonHafez) October 16, 2022 In the...

Recap, Highlights, & Analysis: Real Madrid - Alavés; Liga F

Image
Caroline Weir sparks an outrageous second-half comeback. Real Madrid pasted Alavés 7-1 after not scoring and conceding in the first half. Caroline Weir was at the heart of things once again before Esther came off the bench and took over with a hat-trick. Below are my immediate thoughts and analysis, accompanied by highlights. A post-match podcast will follow. As one might expect, Alberto Toril rotated to a degree given the amount of Madridistas who were on international duty. The likes of Olga Carmona, Esther González, and Claudia Zornoza sat on the bench, although a still-strong eleven took the field — notably containing Weir, who played intense minutes for Scotland. Las Blancas’ start to the match was better than previous ones following midseason stoppages; usually, the side comes out looking sluggish and needs the second half to clinch the game. In the first 10 minutes, Madrid were all over Alavés, pinning them deep near their own box and constantly threatening the area. Ultimately,...

Real Madrid: Ronaldo picks most important player in El Clasico

Image
Widely recognised as the most talented striker to ever step foot on a football field, Ronaldo certainly has the distinction of playing for both of Spain’s biggest teams – Real Madrid and Barcelona. And unsurprisingly, the Brazilian phenomenon enjoyed success with both of them. Ronaldo arguably had the best individual season of his career in Barcelona colours, when he took Spanish football completely by storm. But his stay at the Camp Nou was very short as the Catalan giants certainly dropped the ball by failing to keep him at the club. He could have changed the course of their history way before Lionel Messi. Ronaldo will always be remembered more fondly for his time at Real Madrid, a club where he was at for much longer than Barcelona. Thus, it goes without saying that Ronaldo will always have a unique view of the El Clasico, as he has seen it through the eyes of both sets of fans. And heading into this one, it looks like he views Karim Benzema as the man who can decide the game. Rona...

Pep Guardiola hails Erling Haaland’s impact: He’s never out of the game

Image
Manchester City striker Haaland has scored 20 goals in 13 appearances for the club Pep Guardiola believes Erling Haaland is so good that he shines even when doing nothing. Haaland has been sensational since joining Manchester City in the summer, scoring 20 goals in just 13 appearances for the Premier League champions. The Norwegian has bagged three hat-tricks and has also weighed in with three assists. Yet it is not just these numbers that have impressed City manager Guardiola, but the work the 22-year-old does during the long periods in games when he sees little of the ball. Guardiola said: “I’ve been really surprised at his mentality. We knew his skills, but not how he behaves in bad moments, in the situations when he’s not involved for 20 minutes. “He’s never out of the game, he’s always focused. It is difficult to score a goal when you don’t touch the ball, when you are not involved in the feelings, but always he has that belief and he is involved in the process. “He is always thin...

Jurgen Klopp: Liverpool have to find other ways to compete with Manchester City

Image
Klopp accepts that the Reds work to a more restricted model under American owners Fenway Sports Group. Jurgen Klopp admits Liverpool cannot possibly match Manchester City when it comes to transfer spending but he still believes they can find other ways to compete. During his seven years in charge, Klopp’s net spend has been around £150million, whereas Pep Guardiola’s in a 12-month shorter period is over half-a-billion pounds. Having pushed each other incredibly close in the title race for the majority of the time the two have been in England, Liverpool’s poor start to the season means they currently trail their rivals by 13 points. The resources available to City, backed by Abu Dhabi’s Sheikh Mansour, mean they have been able to strengthen year-on-year with virtually limitless spending. Liverpool, while still being able to bring in a potential £85m club-record signing in Darwin Nunez this summer, work to a more restricted model under American owners Fenway Sports Group and Klopp accept...

Gallagher praises Potter impact Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher has praised Graham Potter, saying that all the players were 'excited' when he was appointed as Blues head coach. Gallagher is one of the players to benefit from Potter's arrival, featuring in all five games the 47-year-old has taken charge of so far. The 22-year-old was used sparingly by Thomas Tuchel at the start of the season and was often used in a deeper midfield role when he did feature. "Everyone was excited for the gaffer to come in," Gallagher told Sky Sports News. "The jobs he had before Chelsea, you could see he was a brilliant manager. All the players are very excited, we've got off to a good start and hopefully we can continue this." Potter's Reece James replacements Chelsea have received a massive blo...

Premier League: 10 things to look out for this weekend

Image
Liverpool face a daunting test against Manchester City, Brendan Rodgers is on the brink and Southampton seek to stop the rot One “freak” result – as Jürgen Klopp put it – has transformed the mood inside Liverpool after they condemned Rangers to the joint-heaviest defeat in their history at Ibrox on Wednesday. The next, and more onerous, challenge is to ensure an emphatic first away win changes the momentum of an inconsistent season. Manchester City and a rested Erling Haaland pose the most formidable threat but the 7-1 win in Glasgow, or certainly the standard of the second-half display, has to be the benchmark for a team that comfortably beat Rangers at Anfield last week before underperforming in defeat at Arsenal. With 13 points separating the two teams who have dominated the title race in recent years, Liverpool cannot afford another false dawn. Their intensity will be key, according to Andy Robertson. “We need to get consistency back into our game, back into our performance,” said ...

Cristiano Ronaldo gave Antony valuable advice after taking Man Utd star under his wing

Image
Manchester United new boy Antony has lifted the lid on the advice Cristiano Ronaldo has given him since the completion of his mega-money switch from Ajax in the summer Antony has revealed that Cristiano Ronaldo has gone above and beyond to help him settle at Manchester United following his summer switch from Ajax. The Brazilian international played a crucial role in the team that won the Eredivisie title under Erik ten Hag last term and quickly emerged as one of the Dutchman's top summer transfer targets after he was prised away from Amsterdam by United. Although Ajax were reluctant to cash in on one of their prized assets, an agreement that could eventually eclipse £86million was finally reached between the two clubs - and Antony has adapted to life at Old Trafford seamlessly. The 22-year-old made club history by plundering three goals in his first three Premier League appearances, with his latest strike helping United to a crucial 2-1 win over Everton. Ronaldo came off the bench ...

Mikel Arteta to call-up three Arsenal wonderkids for Europa League clash vs FK Bodo/Glimt

Image
Arsenal are back in Europa League action this evening as they face FK Bodo/Glimt in their latest Group A fixture Mikel Arteta will continue an Arsenal trend in the Europa League this season when he names his matchday squad for the Group A encounter against FK Bodo/Glimt this evening (Thursday). Whilst the Gunners manager has opted for the same starting line-up in wins over FC Zurich and the Norwegian side, he's also included a number of the club's most promising youngsters on the substitutes bench, mainly due to injuries to first-team players such as Emile Smith Rowe and Mohamed Elneny. On matchday one, Amario Cozier-Duberry, Matt Smith and Catalin Cirjan were called up for the trip to Switzerland. The latter pair were unused substitutes as goals from Eddie Nketiah, Rob Holding, and Fabio Vieira helped Arsenal beat Bodo/Glimt 3-0 at the Emirates Stadium last week. With the north London outfit's injury situation not improving from a week ago - Smith Rowe and Elneny are long-...
